The following instructions are merely one suggested method for installation. There are other ways to properly install your shifter conversion. T.A.S. If you are not familiar with the processes listed below, please seek the help of a professional automotive technician.
1. You should be starting with an automatic shifter that looks like this:
2. Start by opening up your armrest and using a flat head screwdriver to pop up the side of this panel and pull it off.
3. Next use a philips screwdriver to remove these two screws.
4. Using a right angle philips screwdriver or a very short philips remove the two screws on either side of the armrest.
5. Open the cup holder and pull it out of the console by gently pulling up.
6. Remove one screw at the front of the cup holder area.
7. Pull the whole armrest back a little to release the clips, then lift it up and out of the car.
8. Now pull out the ash tray.
9. Remove the two small screws holding the shift knob to the shaft.
10. Take the shift knob off by lifting it up.
11. You should now be able to see this at the top of the shifter:

***** DO NOT lift up on this piece or your shifter will break! *****

12. Remove the two screws at the base of the tabs.
13. Remove the screw located behind the ash tray.
14. Put the keys in the ignition so that you can shift the car back into D3 or 2.
15. Now lift up and the black console and pull it towards you.
16. Undo the connection for the cigarette lighter.
17. Undo the two connections at the top of the console.
18. Remove the rubber trim ring around the shifter. It may be glued on so just be careful not to pull very hard.
19. Remove the four shift cover plate screws.
20. Lift up the shift cover plate.
21. Turn and remove the shift indicator bulb.
22. You can either unclip this section of the harness or tuck it down inside as pictured.
23. Install the new boot on the back of the black console using the four provided screws.
24. Flip the shift boot inside out as pictured.
25. Use the provided zip tie to secure the boot to the shifter shaft.
26. Using snips or pliers cut the end off the zip tie.
27. Now reinstall the black console by preforming the reverse of steps 12 through 17.
28. Take the shift knob out and unscrew it.
29. Intall the two smaller allen screws provided.
30. Slide the bottom of the shift knob over the shaft first.
31. Place the collar over the shaft with the spring on top.
32. Make sure the top of the spring is slightly above the top of the shifter and tighten the screws in the collar.
33. Put the top half of the shifter on and screw the two parts together.
34. Reinstall the ashtray, armrest and cup holder by performing the reverse of steps 2 through 8.
35. Your conversion should be done!
Troubleshooting:
  • If your keys won't come out of the ignition it is because the car is not fully in park. Move the collar slightly higher on the shaft and the problem should go away.
  • If you push down on the knob but it won't shift gears then move the collar slightly lower on the shaft.
